Importance of Lubrication for Hot Rolling
Rolling lubricants play a critical role in achieving the best possible strip profile by maintaining superior surface quality of the rolls throughout the rolling campaign. Without adequate lubrication, rolls experience higher loads and friction, resulting in increased wear and surface roughness.
Lubrication Challenges
- Ability to provide effective lubrication to roll and rolled sheets in operating environments with temperatures of over 900°C
- The lubricant should be able to withstand high loads and maintain lubricating film to avoid frictional wear
- The lubricant should be adhesive and should not get washed away by the intense water jets that are sprayed intermittently on the rolled slabs to reduce temperatures
- The lubricant should not leave any residue on the rolled sheet
